At a press conference on March 14, the Russian Ministry of Defense said Ukraine lost up to 195 soldiers and a large amount of equipment in an unsuccessful attempt to enter Russia’s Belgorod region.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian army group was attacked by aircraft and artillery when crossing the Russian border and moving towards the village of Spodaryushino.
Images circulating on Russian social networks show Ukrainian soldiers killed in Russia’s response attack.
According to the description in the social media post, Russia used the TOS artillery system to fight back against the Ukrainian army group.
The Russian Ministry of Defense later released video of the attack against Ukrainian forces.

On the same day, the Governor of the neighboring Kursk region announced that another clash with Ukrainian forces was recorded in this area.
Previously, on March 12, three Kiev-backed militia teams equipped with heavy weapons sought to enter Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod regions.
This is Ukraine’s first large-scale attack on Russia’s border areas since 2023. Last year, Russia accused Ukrainian forces of infiltrating the Bryansk region in March and trying to enter the Belgorod region late
This week, Ukraine also conducted raids on energy infrastructure inside Russia.
On the night of March 12 and early morning of March 13, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) simultaneously attacked three Russian oil refineries, including plants in the Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov and Ryazan regions.
A day earlier, Ukrainian UAVs reportedly also tried to attack the Kirishi oil refinery, the second largest oil refinery in Russia, in the Leningrad region.
Recently, Ukraine is said to have continuously attacked Russian oil refineries.
One of Kiev’s other goals is to distract Russia and force it to withdraw its forces from the military campaign in Ukraine to strengthen border defense.
The latest attacks take place in the context of Russia increasing security ahead of the three-day presidential election from March 15 to March 17.
Last weekend, the US embassy and several European embassies in Russia advised their citizens to avoid crowded places in Moscow and major Russian cities due to fears of attacks by extremists.
